Forensic scientist Melinda Merck examined the fresh bones found at the site and says what she found what officials had already feared... "All of the ones we were able to recover showed very low fat content in the bone marrow, which directly says these animals died of starvation," Graham said. The new findings could mean new felony charges against the Trexlers. The family is already accused of starving and neglecting dozens of their own horses. Investigators continue to examine the horse remains—looking for more evidence of animal cruelty. For now, 70-year-old Hazel Trexler faces seven felony and 21 misdemeanor counts... expected in court Friday for a hearing on misdemeanor charges.
